Archery | Palo Alto | California

Palomo Archery is an indoor 20 yard (or 18m) range in Palo Alto, California. It has 20 total lanes, with 10 on each of two sides of the building. It also has tools available for basic bow tuning, including a bow press, draw board, string jig, blow torch, and wrenches.

Archery is considered to be one of the oldest sports in the world. The first known use of bows and arrows in combat was in 2340-BC by the Babylonians. It is believed that bows and arrows have been used for at least 25,000 years based upon the discovery of arrowheads in Africa.

The standard convention on teaching archery is to hold the bow depending upon eye dominance. Therefore, if one is right-eye dominant, they would hold the bow in the left hand and draw the string with the right hand. However, not everyone agrees with this line of thought. A smoother, and more fluid release of the string will produce the most consistently repeatable shots, and therefore may provide greater accuracy of the arrow flight. Some believe that the hand with the greatest dexterity should therefore be the hand that draws and releases the string.
